Michael Parenti received his Ph.D. in political science from Yale University and has taught at several colleges and universities. He is the author of twenty books, including God and His Demons, in which he describes the evils of organized religion.

Parenti's writings focus on a broad spectrum of subjects: politics, culture, political economy, imperialism, fascism, communism, democratic socialism, free-market orthodoxies, conservative judicial activism, religion, ancient and modern history, repression in academia, news and entertainment media, technology, environmentalism, sexism, racism, and homophobia.
